Good design, error-free bending

Bending sheet metal parts is directly affected by decisions made at the design stage. Following a few basic rules both reduces cost and prevents dimensional deviations.

Points to watch

  • Bend radius: The inside bend radius should generally be equal to or greater than the sheet thickness.
  • Minimum flange length: Flanges that are too short cannot be held in the die; flange length should be set according to the thickness and die opening.
  • Hole-to-bend distance: Holes too close to the bend line may deform.
  • Flat-pattern calculation: The cut size should be calculated taking the bend allowance into account.

Engineering support

If you are not sure whether your design can be bent, our engineering team will assess your part before production. For details, see our CNC press brake bending page.
